  1. The Difference

Philmont
is an American pop-punk influenced Christian rock band based out of Charlotte, North Carolina. They are signed to Forefront Records / EMI CMG.

History

Philmont was formed by Scott Taube, Abe Hege, and Josiah Prince in Summer of 2005; Prince recruited Matthew Arcaini to play bass, and the band recorded their independent debut EP Take Cover with local producer Kit Walters in December of that year . Arcaini left the band on good terms in April of 2006, while Philmont performed with temporary members for over a year. In December of 2006, Taube, Hege, and Prince travelled to Eudora, Kansas to record a majority of their Photosynthetic EP at Black Lodge Studios with producer Ed Rose. Kit Walters and Matthew Arcaini each produced a track on the EP as well.

Philmont released Photosynthetic independently on March 6th, 2007 at Tremont Music Hall in Charlotte. Two months later Justin Sams joined the band, putting an end to the long streak of fill-ins. That July, the band performed at the 2007 Cornerstone Festival in Bushnell, Illinois, where they were discovered by representatives of EMI CMG. Philmont showcased for the label group that Fall, and were soon offered a recording contract with Forefront Records. Hege unexpectedly left the band for personal reasons just weeks before the signing was to take place. Prince convinced friend (and pre-Philmont bandmate) Todd Davis to join on short notice, and Philmont was able to sign the deal a few days before Christmas.

After signing with Forefront, the band spent several months writing songs in preparation for recording their first full-length album. They spent April and May of 2008 recording twelve songs in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Rob Hawkins. The five-song Oh Snap EP was digitally released on August 19th, 2008. Their first single "I Can't Stand to Fall" was released to CHR and Christian Rock Radio on July 11th, 2008, and can be heard on the band's MySpace site. On September 6, 2008, a music video of the second song on the EP was released to YouTube. The band members have also announced it was filmed and directed by themselves. The full album will be released in 2009.

Philmont has had a busy 2008 Summer, performing at Ichthus Festival and Cornerstone Festival; as well as opening for the Drop In & Rock Out Tour in July, sharing the stage with High Flight Society, Our Heart's Hero, and professional skateboarder Tim Byrne. They performed alongside Emery, Project 86, Eleventyseven, and Spoken at Amp-Fest in Rock Falls, Illinois on August 9th; and will be opening the For the Love of the Fans Tour in September with Pillar and Addison Road.
